Planting tips:
You should not put a feeding tray out until you really want to. If you miss anything, don’t worry there is always time to catch them later. Refer to your wildlife guide to see exactly how to attract whatever critter you want to focus on. Sometimes a critter will come when you only have one plant out to attract it and a bunch of plants attracting the rest of the wild kingdom, but then you would just be relying on luck and chance as to what will come in your garden.
In general, focus on one and make sure you have as many attractants out as possible and if there are any “common” critters that might come instead of what you are wanting, deter them. If they can eat from a Raised table, your best bet is to use one because it DETERS MICE!! If they cannot reach the Raised table, then use the Low feeding platter. If the critter eats anything, use the nuts (because it will deter the mallard).
Wildlife is relatively complex. You don’t really want to have a “what all can I attract with Mixed Veggies” garden. Nor do you want an, “oh I have one Solaris so I’ll attract an Ostrich”, garden. You should try to plant specifically for an Ostrich. You should have a Raised Table with Veggies because your results will be dramatically different. Plant as many Solaris as possible!!! Each flower gives you a chance to attract one, and don’t you want as many chances as possible? Don’t plant any herbs either, as that will only contradict your garden because the Ostrich does not like herbs.
Also, you want the food out while the flowers are at the right stage (flowering -not still growing or fruiting). When you grow the Solaris it’s a red and yellow flower. That is “flowering” stage. When it is all sunbeams that is “fruited” stage. Basically when your flowers are growing and have the petals they are flowering. When they are “Ready for harvest” they are fruited.
In summary:
*CONCENTRATE YOUR EFFORTS (especially if it’s a rare)
*AS MANY ATTRACTING FLOWERS AS POSSIBLE (each flower is like a ticket in a lottery drawing)
*DETER WITH FLOWERS/MUSHROOMS/TABLES/FOOD IF POSSIBLE (small changes that make a huge difference)
*CROSS FINGERS (even the best gardeners have good and bad days)
